Writing Projects Update

So, I have 4 different writing projects at various stages of development. Here are the updates on all 4…

Avalon Falls
AKA, ‘the Crime novel’

I received the Kindle file of Avalon Falls and read through it, noting a few places to make corrections, and I’ve sent it back to the interior design company that’s working on it. Once those changes are made & the file is ready, they’ll also make the file for CreateSpace so the book will be ready for paperback production. Once I have all these things and my cover artist adjusts the cover image to take into account the actual spine width of the book, I can upload everything and make the book available for sale.

The Raft, the River and the Robot
AKA, ‘my futuristic Huck Finn story’

I haven’t talked about this project here, I don’t think, keeping it mostly under wraps, though I did mention a little while ago that I was writing a futuristic novel based in part on an American classic. This is it, my novel inspired in large measure by The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and my cover artist, Abe Goolsby, has started designing that cover too. It is going to look fantastic. I hope R3 will be ready for release in September.

I want to go on record, by the way, of saying that R3 is probably my most creative novel, and I’m super excited for its release in a few months.

The Darker Road
AKA, ‘the new fantasy book’

The Darker Road is scheduled for a March, 2013 release from AMG, and just this week I had a preliminary conversation with the cover artist. Those who are familiar with Wayne Thomas Batson’s recent books with AMG, The Dark Sea Annals, will know this artist’s work. I think those covers are great, and I’m excited to see what he does with The Darker Road.

The Lesser Sun
AKA, ‘The Wandering Book 2’

I don’t know if I’ve revealed my working title for the sequel to The Darker Road, but this is it. I am supposed to be finished by the end of 2012 and was running a bit behind, but some productive weeks at the start of June saw another 60 pages completed. So, now I’m about 35% of the way through, as the progress bar on the right indicates.

I have a solid, big picture plan for how the last 2/3 of the story goes, but I need to work out the details. Once I get Avalon Falls squared away, I will jump back into The Lesser Sun and hope to get to the 50% mark by the start of the school year in August.

I realize that for those of you who read and enjoyed BOTB, it has been a long time since I had a new book (spring ’08, in fact), and it might seem strange that ‘all of a sudden’ there are 4 projects underway, and 3 nearing completion.

It isn’t really ‘all of a sudden’ though. I’ve been plodding along, writing, ever since I finished All My Holy Mountain. In fact, the three novels of mine that will be available in the next 9 months were all written between ’07 and ’10.

At any rate, I hope all of you find as much pleasure in reading those stories as I had in writing them…

  • I bet we will! 🙂 I’m super excited about them!
Do you mean the last 2/3 of the whole six-part story? And is your current contract still just the first three, or has that expanded?

  • I meant the last 2/3 of “The Lesser Sun.” My contract with AMG is still for 3 novels.

My intent is to write all 6, no matter what, so Lord willing, they’ll all be on their way eventually…

  • So excited! I can’t wait for you’re next book to come out. My birthday is in April so maybe I’ll get it for my birthday.

I’ve read some of the books from the other authors you posted about. I read Wayne Thomas Batson’s Door Within Trilogy and pirate set and liked them both. I am reading the Dragon books by Donita K. Paul as the library slowly rents them one at a time from another library.
When I’m finished with those, I want to read the White Lion Chronicles.

I really enjoy this genre but yours were the best that I have read.

How long do you think it will take to finish this series? Will you release one a year?

Do you have any plans for more stories after these?

I’m looking forward to 6 more of your awesome books.

  • AMG is planning a book a year, so the initial trilogy will be spring 2013, 2014 and 2015, barring anything unforeseen.

I do intend to write another trilogy to follow up on this one, but it isn’t under contract so dates haven’t been set.

In the meantime, the futuristic novel I’m releasing should be available in September.

Beyond these 7 books, there are several adult contemporary fiction stories I’d like to write, so I’ll be pretty busy for a while!
