Super Bowl Prediction Time

It’s time for my Friday Fun post, in which I offer nothing more than perhaps an opportunity for some amusement.

All right, since this is the last Friday before the NFL kicks off its regular season next Thursday in Denver, I thought I’d use this ‘Friday Fun’ post to solicit your preseason, Super Bowl pick.

Anyone who knows me at all knows that I am a huge Ravens’ fan. Of course, since we are the reigning Super Bowl champs, you might expect me to be pretty happy – and I am. You might also expect me to pick the Ravens to win this year, but I won’t. It isn’t because I don’t think they can, it is because it feels like bad Ju-Ju to me to pick my own team to repeat. So, I will choose a different team.

Well, if not my Ravens, then who will it be? San Francisco? No. I don’t think so. It’s hard to climb that mountain again two years in a row and history hasn’t been kind to SB losers the next year. Besides, Jim Harbaugh is so tightly wound I think he might explode any day now. (I definitely prefer Harbaugh East to Harbaugh West.)

I also don’t like trendy picks Seattle, Cincinnati or Atlanta because, well, because I don’t. Also, like any rational human being, I am afraid that despite all their offseason trouble, New England will again be sitting pretty because their division is terrible and I desperately don’t want them in another Super Bowl, so I won’t pick them just because I don’t want to live in that world.

This really leaves me only one choice, so I’m going to go with Denver. I’m not a Broncos fan, but I don’t hate them, and I kind of like Peyton Manning, and I think it would be a cool story if he got his second ring with a totally different team. I think it is definitely possible, I wouldn’t mind it happening, and for that reason, my call is the Broncos.

And you? Who are you picking?

  • Oops – sorry Rob, as I was purging spam I accidently deleted your comment! (Don’t read anything into that… šŸ™‚

Rob took Green Bay over the Patriots, but suggested that the Broncos might get there in a year or two, and that the Vikes or Rams would be fun to see there, even if its a longshot.

So, we have a Broncos pick, a Redskins pick (sorry, Wayne, I know you bleed Redskins red & gold, but it ain’t happenin’), a Falcons pick and a Packers pick…
